PSALM 34:1,8 OCCULAR TASTEBUDS (How The Mouth Affects How You See)

Greetings...

"I will BLESS the Lord at all times His PRAISE shall continually be in my MOUTH."
(Psalm 34:1)

"Oh, TASTE and SEE that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who TRUSTS in Him!"
(Psalm 34:8)

TASTE: ta'am (tah-ahm)= to taste, eat, discern, perceive; to evaluate. This verb refers to the testing of good by means of the sense of taste. From the primary sense of physical tasting, ta'am developed into the idea of evauative sampling of things other than food. Ta'am as a noun came to refer to "discernment", that is, the capacity to choose and delight in good things...." (Word Wealth from the Spirit Filled Bible)

If I have a bad taste in my mouth...I will (1) spit out what is bad (2) put something in my mouth that tastes good. Sometimes...I will avoid eating or drinking something...because I am convinced that it will taste bad. It could be because of what others have said about it...or a previous experience that left a bad taste in my mouth.

One thing I do know...if I mix something bad with something good...the bad will turn the good bad. In James he speaks of the influence of out TONGUES and the output of the mouth.

"But no man can tame the TONGUE...it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it (the tongue) we BLESS our God and Father, and with it (the tongue) we CURSE MEN, who have been made in the likeness of God. Out of the SAME MOUTH proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren (and sistern) these things ought not to be so. Does a spring send forth FRESH WATER and BITTER from the same opening? Can a fig tre, my brethren bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus NO SPRING yields both SALT WATER and FRESH."
(James 3:8-12)

We are called to OCCULAR TASTEBUDS where the act of tasting (blessing, praising, and trusting the Lord) will affect how we see (discern, evaluate, perceive) things in our lives.

When I first met my lovely wife Brenda...we went to Sir Pizza and ordered a large 1/2 hamburger and 1/2 mushroom pizza. I HATED mushrooms...even though I had never, ever, in my entire life...ever ate a mushroom. My mom and dad did not like them...and that was good enough for me....until love took over...and Brenda convinced me to eat a slice of her side of the pizza. Not only was I in love with Brenda (still in love after 39 years of marriage)...but I began a love affair with mushrooms...because my eyes were opened to the goodness of the mushroom.

I TASTED and I SAW that the mushroom was GOOD. So it is with the Lord. As I TASTE by putting in good stuff (blessing, praise, trust) in my mouth...I SEE that the Lord IS GOOD.

Happy Eating

Love and Tasty Kisses
