PSALM 24:7 CALL AND RESPONSE

Greeting door knockers...

"Lift u your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the king of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory." (Psalm 24:7-10)

NOTE: "Some scholars consider this Psalm to be a joining of two smaller poems; 1-6 and 7-10. The first on is similar to Psalm 15. These were probably written when the ark was brought to Jerusalem by David." (The Spirit Filled Life Study Bible note)

Here is the question asked. "Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy Place?" The answer is:

1. He who has clean hands
2. He who has a pure heart
3. He who has not lifted up his soul to an idol
4. He who has not sworn deceitfully

The cause and effect of you being able to ascend and stand is: (1) Blessing (2) righteousness and it is reserved for those who SEEK HIM...SEEK HIS FACE.

Well...I guess at this point that leaves me out...until you factor in The Propitiation...The Substitute...The Satisfaction (I John 2:1-2)

As the congregation waits inside...The KING wants entry. The doorkeeper...must have a PASSWORD.

QUESTION (Call): Who is the King of Glory
ANSWER (Response): The Lord strong and mighty...The Lord might in battle...the Lord of hosts...The King of Glory.

I don't know about you...but if I was the doorkeeper...I would be opening me up some doors. I find it interesting that the KING...did not just ram on in...but followed procedure to get in. Isn't that just like our Lord...as He stands at the door of our hearts...knocking...just waiting for us to open up.

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me." (Revelation 3:20)

(1) Knock Knock
(2) Who's there?
(3) Jesus
(4) Jesus who?
(5) Jesus of Nazareth who God anointed with the Holy Ghost and with power and who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil (little) for God was with me. (Acts 10:38)
(6) Enter My Lord.

PSALM 23:1-6 The SheepShank Redemption

Greetings Sheep Saints...

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. he makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters. He restoreth my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for Thou art with me. Thy rod and Your staff they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." (Psalm 23:1-6)

NOTE: Recommended Ruminator Reading...A SHEPHERD LOOKS AT PSALM 23 by Phillip Keller.

In this crazy world of wolves and sheep...we need a Shepherd. There are many benefits being in The Shepherd's flock:

1. No want
2. Rest in green pasture
3. Still waters
4. Restoration of soul (mind, will, emotions, the seat of who we are)
5. No fear of evil
6. Comfort
7. Prepared tables in presence of enemies
8. Anointed head
9. Running over cup
10.Goodness and mercy following for a lifetime
11. Permanent residence in the house of the Lord

All of this good stuff...hinges on THE LORD being my SHEPHERD...not anyone or anything else. If I am fooled by a wolf in shepherd clothing...the wolf is my shepherd...then take the 11 benefits and write the exact opposite...and then put me on the table for dinner cause da wolf is hungry.

Three things:

1. Since my name is Rodney...I am always excited...to find out I have a group of people working for me..."Thy ROD and Thy STAFF comfort me." Good job staff. My friend Williams Visher told me that he can identify with me...since he is..."The WILL of God."

2. I would be amiss if I did not mention my two traveling companions following me (1) Shirley
and (2) Goodness

3. As you walk THROUGH the valley of the shadow of death...KEEP ON WALKING...because you will eventually come out the other side. Do not set up residence in the Valley.

PSALM 22:1-4 Suffering Messiah

Hello those who feel forsaken...

"My God, My God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from helping Me, and from the words of my groaning. O My God, I cry in the daytime but You do not hear; and in the night season and am not silent. But You are holy, enthroned in the praises of Israel. Our fathers trusted in You; They trusted, and You delivered them." (Psalm 22:1-4)

I know that at times...I do not sense, feel, see God anywhere in the middle of my troubles. I feel forsaken. But my forsaken...is nothing like Jesus endured on the cross...as He was crucified in my place...died, and rose again. (D.B.R.)

The Fat Part of the Book (Old Testament) is continually pointing to Jesus...who is continually pointing to the Father. Genesis 3:15 starts the Messianic references...and continues on.

In THE PSALMS...we see THE CHRIST OF THE PSALMS (Thanx and a Tip O Da Hat to the Spirit Filled Life Bible notes who collected the Psalm references to Christ)

1. Psalm 2:7 The Son of God Matthew 3:17
2. Psalm 8:2 Praised by children Matthew 21:15,16
3. Psalm 8:6 Ruler of all Hebrews 2:8
4. Psalm 16:10 Rises from death Matthew 28:7

6. Psalm 22:7,8 Derided by enemies Luke 23:35
7. Psalm 22:16 Hands and feet pierced John 20:27
8. Psalm 22:18 Lots cast for clothes Matthew 27:35,36
9. Psalm 34:20 Bones unbroken John 19:32, 33, 36
10.Psalm 35:11 Accused by false witnesses Mark 14:57
11. Psalm 35:19 Hated without cause John 15:25

14. Psalm 45:6 The eternal King Hebrews 1:8
15. Psalm 68:18 Ascends to heaven Acts 1:9-11
16. Psalm 69:9 Zealous for God's house John 2:17
17. Psalm 69:21 Given vinegar and gall Matthew 27:34
18. Psalm 109:4 Prays for enemies Luke 23:34
19. Psalm 109:8 His betrayer replaced Acts 1:20
20. Psalm 110:1 Ruler over His enemies Matthew 22:44
21. Psalm 110:4 A priest forever Hebrews 5:6
22. Psalm 118:22 The chief stone of God's building Matthew 21:42
23. Psalm 118:26 Comes in the name of the Lord Matthew 21:9

Well...either this is a well constructed conspiracy put together by perpetrators of a fantasy...OR this stuff is real.

Lord...I have never endured anything like what you have gone through...so I think I will quit my whining about being forsaken..."A posterity shall serve Him, it will be recounted to the next generation. They will come and declare His righteousness to a people who will be born. That He has done THIS." (Psalm 22:30-31)

PSALM 21: 1, 13 JOY POWER: STRENGTH and SALVATION

Good morning weaklings...need some strength?

"The king shall have JOY in Your STRENGTH, O Lord; and in Your SALVATION shall he REJOICE!...Be exalted, O Lord, in Your own STRENGTH...we will sing and praise Your POWER. (Psalm 21:1, 13)

I don't know about you...but the majority of the time...I do not feel up to the task. I know all to well my weakness. Oh I may be able to put up a brave facade...but chip away and you will find me trembling with fear for being found out what I can't do. I like that song by Twila Paris... The Warrior Is A Child. "You don't know...."

I am trying to learn...as the Psalmist sings about...that my strength, salvation and power can ONLY come from HIS strength. I can only have JOY and SALVATION...in the Lord.

In our WEAKNESS...we are out of control. We have no power to fix whatever needs to be fixed, including our problems, other people's problems, world problems, economic problems, religious problems...we are OUT OF CONTROL...and that is a GOOD PLACE to be. If we are OUT OF CONTROL...that means that He CAN BE IN CONTROL.

"Concerning this thing (a thorn in the flesh...a messenger of satan to buffet Paul, lest I be exalted above measure)...My GRACE (free gift, favor, divine influence in the heart manifested in the life) is sufficient for you...for MY STRENGTH...is made perfect in WEAKNESS..."
(II Corinthians 12:9)

NOTE: This does not mean to roll over and just accept anything that happens to you...but it does mean to stand in the GRACE of God...against satan and his messengers...with expectation for perfection and power to come into our lives.

"Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears...let the WEAK say I AM STRONG."

NOTE: Of course this is not pulling up your bootstraps and gutting it out. It is calling things that are not...as though they were...and speaking out words of faith.

"...for the JOY of the Lord is your STRENGTH." (Nehemiah 8:10)

NOTE: There is a little chorus that we would sing in Vacation Bible School (V.B.S.) and in the 70's at church meetings...The Joy Of The Lord Is My Strength. It was a nice little ditty...that stated..."If you want joy you can clap for it." Throughout the song you can substitute the word clap with sing, jump, praise, etc. for IT (the joy of the Lord). This song was taken from the phrase found in Nehemiah. Of course...the context is that Nehemiah, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites TAUGHT the people...and they HEARD THE WORDS OF THE LAW. The JOY OF THE LORD...comes from understanding the WORD OF GOD. Of course you can sing, jump, praise, etc...when you hear the Word of God...but the JOY that will be your STRENGTH is not something you can work up on your own...it is hinged to the WORD OF GOD.

Well...when you are WEAK...Sing and praise the Lord for His power, strength, grace, mercy, provision...and you will see HIS STRENGTH...in your weakness.

PSALM 20:7 NAME POWER

Greetings Trusters in the day of Trouble

"Some TRUST in chariots, and some (trust) in horses...but we will remember (trust) the NAME of the Lord our God." (Psalm 20:7)

This Psalm starts off with..."May the Lord answer you in the DAY OF TROUBLE. May the NAME of the God of Jacob defend you." (Psalm 20:1)

Trouble will come. It will come when you least expect it. Anyone can TRUST when there is NO TROUBLE. Trusting God in the midst of the trouble separates the wishers verses the trusters.

The Psalmsist had an assurance of God's saving work. Some think that this Psalm was used as a "congregational prayer used with sacrifices offered just before going to war." (Spirit Filled Life Study Bible note)

In this Psalm...there is a comparision of the TRUSTERS and the NON-TRUSTERS in the DAY OF TROUBLE.

NON-TRUSTERS

1. chariots
2. horses

NON-TRUSTERS OUTCOMES

1. bowed down
2. fallen

TRUSTERS

1. The Name Of The Lord our God

NOTE: The trusters in the day of trouble, trust seems to be hinged on THE NAME OF THE LORD.

TRUSTER'S EXPECTATIONS in the NAME OF THE LORD

1. Answer from the Lord
2. Defense from the Lord
3. Help from the sanctuary
4. Strength out of Zion
5. Remembrance and acceptance of sacrifices
6. Desires of your heart
7. Fulfilled purposes
8. Rejoicing in our salvation
9. Banners set up
10.Fulfilled petitions
11. Salvation
12.Answers from holy heaven
13.Saving strength of His right hand
14.Saving
15. Answers from the King when we call

I don't know about you...but I want to be in the trusters column...more benefits in the Day Of Trouble....so I can have a Day of Deliverance.

PSALM 19:1-14 REVELATION UNITED

Greetings Psalm Lovers...

"The heavens declare the glory of God...the Law of the Lord is perfect..." (Psalm 19:1,7)

God is a revealer of mysteries. Some of the revelation is subtle...some not so subtle...but His heartbeat for mankind is revelation. In Psalm 19 we see two of the ways that God reveals Himself. The heading in my Bible for this Psalm is "The Perfect Revelation of the Lord" To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. So this is a musical revelation of the Lord.

Back in the 70's--we would sing the Scriptures. One of my favorites is found in Psalm 19:7-11. At my church where I attend...we sing a song based on this also...adding in verse 14.

REVELATION #1 (Creation)

1. The heavens declare the glory of God
2. The firmament shows His handiwork
3. Day unto day utters speech
4. And night unto night reveals knowledge
5. There is no speech nor language where their (day and night) voice is not heard
6. Their (day and night) has gone out through all the earth
7. Their (day and night) words to the end of the world.
8. In them (day and night) he has set a tabernacle/tent for the sun which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber (I love this picture)
9. And rejoices like a strong man to run its race
10. And its circuit to the other end. (the course of earth around sun...ie. sunrise/sunset)
11. There is nothing hidden from it's (the sun) heat

NOTE: All of this speaks of the total revelation of the Lord where every eye can see the Lord in His creation. Paul underscores this thought...and removes all excuses not to believe.

"For the wrath of God is REVEALED from HEAVEN against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be KNOWN of God is MANIFEST/EVIDENT in them, for God has SHOWN IT TO THEM. For since the CREATION OF THE WORLD His invisible attributes are CLEARLY SEEN, being understood by the thing the things THAT ARE MADE, even His ETERNAL POWER and GODHEAD/DIVINE NATURE...so that they are without excuse, because although they KNEW Him as God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their THOUGHTS, and their foolish HEARTS were darkened." (Romans 1:18-21)

NOTE: God REVEALS...man denies. The denial is in their actions as they act as if they don't know Him. The profess to be wise...they became FOOLS. They exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God...into an image made like corruptible man (images of man, birds, four footed animals and creeping things). (Romans 1:22-23)

NOTE: God does not FORCE anyone to acknowledge or worship Him. He won't violate you choice of free will. Oh...he will lean heavily on you...to let you know and give you every opportunity to acknowledge and worship Him...but the final choice is yours. See Romans 1:24-32 for the cause and effect of our free will/choices.

REVELATION #2 (The Word)

The law, testimony, statutes, commandment, fear of the Lord, judgements of the Lord, the words of the mouth and meditations of the heart (speaking and meditating on the Word)...are all images of the reality. Words...the written or verbal expression is a mirror into the heart. So it is with the Creator of the universe...this written word is a REVELATION of His heartbeat, thoughts, intentions...and the cause and effect is good.

1. Law of the Lord=perfect--converting the soul
2. Testimony of the Lord=pure--making wise the simple
3. Statutes of the Lord=right--rejoicing the heart
4. Commandments of the Lord=pure--enlightening the eyes
5. Fear of the Lord=clean--enduring forever
6. Judgements of the Lord=true/righteous altogether

The DESIRE FACTOR for this Word of God is:

1. More to be desired than gold...much fine gold
2. Sweeter than honey and the honeycomb
3. Keeping them the servant is warned
4. Keeping them is great reward

As we keep His Word in our lives we ask the Lord to cleanse us from SECRET FAULTS that only the Lord can know and the His Word reveals. (Hebrews 4:12) We ask the Lord to keep back PRESUMPTUOUS SINS...and not let them (faults and presumptuous sins) to have DOMINION over us...so that we can be blameless and innocent of great/much transgression.

The bottom line prayer....

1. Let the words of my mouth (as you speak His Word)
2. And the meditation of my hearth (as you ruminate, think about His Word)
3. Be acceptable in Your sight

He is...(1) Lord (2) strength (3) Redeemer.

FINAL THOUGHTS...FINALLY

Wow...what a great Psalm.

PSALM 18:1-3 REASON FOR PRAISE

Greetings O Ye Praisers!

"I will love You, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I will call upon the Lord...who is WORTHY TO BE PRAISED; so shall I be saved from my enemies." (Psalm 18:1-3)

The heading of this Psalm reads: "To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David, the servant of the Lord, who spoke to the Lord the words of this song on the day that the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul...and he said:"

This leads into..."I will love You, Oh Lord...." According to my footnotes in my Spirit Filled Life Bible..."This Psalm is a repeat of the song recorded in II Samuel 22 and is the longest Psalm in Book One."

There are many reasons to praise the Lord listed in Psalm 18:1-50...but the core of the WHY is found in verse 3..."...the Lord who is WORTHY TO BE PRAISED."

He is not JUST...WORTHY because of what He DOES for us...He is WORTHY...just because HE IS WORTHY. It is not what He does...but Who He is.

In the 70's we use to sing Scripture. One of these songs that we sung vertically to the Lord (before vertical worship came into being vogue)...was Revelation 4:11.

"Thou art WORTHY, O Lord...to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all tings and by Your will they exist and were created." (Revelation 4:11)

We see later on in chapter 5..."You are WORTHY to take the scroll, and to open its seals, FOR (reason He was worthy)...You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and priests to our God; and we shall reign on the earth."
(Revelation 5:9-10)

And yet again..."WORTHY is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing. And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea and all that are in them I heard saying...Blessing and honor and glory and power be to HIM who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, forever and ever." (Revelation 5:12-13)

Well...there ya go. If you need a reason to praise Him...don't wait for deliverance from your enemies before you start. Start NOW...in the middle of the nitty gritty. Why? Because HE IS WORTHY!!!!

PSALM 17:6-7 RING...RING...IT'S FOR YOU.

Hello friends...

"I have CALLED upon You, for you will HEAR me, O God. Incline Your EAR to me, and HEAR my SPEECH." (Psalm 17:6)

Once again the Psalmist is in the prayer mode. He is using his vocal system to CALL God...with great confidence that God will HEAR him. Years ago...my wife Brenda's grandmother passed away. We went to the funeral home...and we were checking out the lovely flowers that people send as a show of sorrow and affection for the family. Well...we came upon a horseshoe wreath of flowers with a pink, plastic, toy phone attached and a banner with the words...JESUS CALLED. Well...ya had to laugh. Someone was serious. Of course...so began the jokes. "Hmmmm...I hope when he CALLS me...it is not a wrong number." "If he calls from Tennessee it will be a local call...but from heaven...long distance." "The number you have reached has been disconnected." "Boy...talk about reaching out and touching someone."

NOTE: Someone once said that God's phone number is Jeremiah 33:3 "CALL to Me...and I will ANSWER you, and SHOW you great and mighty things which you do not know."

Now that I've got all of those jokes out of the way...God does have a communication system between us and Him. It's called PRAYER. It most definitely can be used like a 911 emergency CALL...but it can also be used to keep in contact and just CALL to talk to Him.

We use to sing the song...JESUS ON THE MAIN LINE.

Jesus on the main line...tell Him what you want
Jesus on the main line...tell Him what you want
Jesus on the main line...tell Him what you want
Jesus on the main line now.

If you want salvation...tell Him what you want.

NOTE: The song continued with various prayer requests....ie. healing, deliverance, peace, etc.

So...next time you are surrounded by enemies...or lonely, or depressed, or happy, or just needed to talk to God...CALL HIM UP. He has His Ear INCLINED to you...and will HEAR your SPEECH...and He just might SPEAK back to you. Oh yeah...be sure to have your Bible close by...because He might want you to see a transcription of your sonic conversation with Him.

PSALM 16:2 THE and MY LORD

Greetings lovers of the Lord.

"I have said to THE Lord...Thou are MY Lord; I have no good besides Thee." (Psalm 16:2)

I love this declaration by the Psalmist. He recognizes how big and far reaching the Lord is...but takes on a personal, individual mindset of this vast God.

(1) THE Lord= yeh-ov-ah...the self existent or eternal Jehovah, the Jewish national name of God, Jehovah the Lord.

(2) MY Lord= ad-o-noy...the Lord (used as a proper name of God only) MY Lord. The root of this word means sovereign, controller, master, owner.

Of course when the Psalmist says MY Lord...he is not speaking of the Lord being his personal property like...my house, my dog, my shoes, my (fill in the blank)...BUT he is speaking of THE Lord as the one who is his owner, master, controller (one in control), sovereign one.

This NATIONAL Lord could easily invade us individual and make us HIS property...but He allows us the choice of being MY Lord. He becomes MY Lord, when I YIELD...MY will to His will...and obey Him.

A cursory look at Psalm 16 shows the benefits of making the Lord MY Lord:

1. preservation
2. refuge
3. non-multiplied sorrows
4. boundaries/lines falling in pleasant places
5. a beautiful heritage
6. counsel
7. will not be shaken
8. glad heart
9. my flesh dwelling securely
10. soul not abandoned to Sheol/the nether world
11. fullness of joy
12. pleasures forever

Hmmmm....sounds like the cause and effect of THE Lord being MY Lord is great.

At some point...every knee shall bow...and every tongue shall confess that JESUS IS LORD (Philippians 2:9-11)

PSALM 15:1-5 Citizen: Not Shaken...or Stirred

Greetings Citizens...of heaven that is.

"O Lord, who may abide/sojourn in thy tent? Who may dwell on Thy holy hill? He who walks with integrity, and works righteousness, and speaks truth in his heart. He does not slander with his tongue, nor does evil to his neighbor. Nor takes up a reproach against his friend; Nor takes up a reproach against his friend; In whose eyes a reprobate is despised, but who honors those who fear the Lord; He swears to his own hurt, and does not change; He does not put out his money at interest, nor does he take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things WILL NEVER BE SHAKEN." (Psalm 15:1-5)

In my Bible...the heading of this Psalm is: Description of a Citizen of Zion...A Psalm of David.

There are two questions about this citizenship: (1) Who may abide/dwell/sojourn in Thy tent?
(2) Who may dwell on Thy holy hill?

The cause and effect of the actions of doing the things that a citizen of Zion does is..."he who does these things...WILL NEVER BE SHAKEN."

Here is the checklist for citizenship:

1. Walk with integrity
2. Works righteousness
3. Speaks truth in his heart
4. Does not slander with his tongue
5. Does not do evil to his neighbor
6. In his eyes despises reprobate
7. Honors those who fear the Lord
8. Swears to his own hurt
9. Does not change
10.Does not put out his money at interest
11. Does not take a bribe against the innocent

Well that is quiet a checklist no isn't it? Good targets, goals, aspirations to be having...BUT I need HELP...or more than that...I need a HELPER to do these things. Holy Ghost...come help yourself...as I do these things.

PSALM 14:1 THE FOOL

Greetings Fools and Non-Fools alike...no foolin'.

"The FOOL has said in his heart...there is NO GOD." (Psalm 14:1; Psalm 53:1)

"You have heard that the ancients were told...you shall not commit murder and whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court. But I (Jesus) say to you that everyone who is ANGRY with his brother shall be guilty before the court...and whoever say to his brother YOU GOOD FOR NOTHING (empty head) , shall be guilty before the supreme court and whoever says YOU FOOL, shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell." (Matthew 5:21)

Well...that is quiet a contrast with the Psalmist calling people a FOOL and Jesus underscoring that if you say YOU FOOL...you will be dealing with a fiery hell (Gehenna...the valley of Hinnom where human sacrifices and a continual burning of garbage takes place).

If you combine that with Paul's self assessment of himself as.."FOOLS for Christ"...it gets even more confusing...unless you realize that Jesus is dealing with attitudes of the heart and anger...and not the mental condition of someone who says...THERE IS NO GOD. And Paul is comparing himself to the intellectuals of the time who thing they had all the wisdom in the world...while everyone else is foolish.

We are all FOOLS in one way or the other...you are either a FOOL for Christ or a FOOL for the devil. It is like Bob Dylan's song on SLOW TRAIN COMING..."You got to SERVE somebody...it may be the devil (little d) or it may be the Lord...but you're gonna have to SERVE somebody." You could interject the word FOOL in place of somebody..."You're gonna be the FOOL for somebody...it may be the devil (little d) or it may be the Lord...but you're gonna have to be a FOOL for somebody."

Sometimes...I act the FOOL. How? Well...I act as if I believe there is NO GOD. I may not say it...but I sure do act like it sometimes.

As you read through Psalm 14 you begin to get a picture of this FOOL:

1. The fool has said IN HIS HEART there is no God

NOTE: It is an inside out job. What you believe inside will be revealed on your lips...and then in your actions. "Unrestrained thoughts, produce unrestrained words, resulting in unrestrained actions."

2. They are corrupt

NOTE: When you have a corrupt file...it just messes up the entire computer system.

3. They have committed abominable deeds

NOTE: The outward manifestation of the inward thought.

4. There is no one who does good

NOTE: With no belief in God...there are no restrictions...if it feels good do it...whether it is good or bad.

5. They have all turned aside.

NOTE: Temptation is designed not to pull you into something as much as it is to pull you AWAY...aside from who you really are.

6. Together they have become corrupt

NOTE: Misery loves company...and when you have a collective group of FOOLS (plural)...who reinforce their belief that there is no God...they they become CC (Collectively Corrupt)

7. There is no one who does good, not even one.

NOTE: If you had a FOOL lineup...you could not pick out ONE who does good in the eyes of God. Oh sure...there are people who are atheists and agnostics who are good people...and maybe even better at doing Christian things than actual Christians...but they are still FOOLS... and shame on the Christian for not living up to the name. Paul quotes this section about sin and sinners...in Romans 3:10-12)

"The fool (one who is morally perverse, not mentally deficient) is described as t his belief (no God) and behavior (no one who does good)..His is a practical rather than theoretical atheism." (Ryrie Study Bible note.)

Well...there ya have another dynamic Psalm...singing about the FOOL.

PSALM 13:1-4 THE HOW LONG LAMENT

Greetings O Ye Waiters...and I don't mean Ye servers of food and beverages...

"How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide Your face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart all the day? How Long will my enemy be exalted over me?" (Psalm 13:1-3)

The waiters that I am talking about are those who are WAITING for God to show up. In the Ruminator Sunday School class..we like to call this waiting between the point of the problem and our prayers to the point of the provision and answered prayer as THE LAND OF NITTY GRITTY. This is the land where we DO NOT SEE God. It is the land where reality (real stuff) continues to happen. It is the land where the enemy appears to have won...and God is no where in sight. It is the land where we don't deny reality...but we do deny realities right to rule us. It is the land where we have to WALK BY FAITH...NOT BY SIGHT (II Co3. 5:7) It is the land where we get to PLEASE GOD by (1) coming to Him (2) as we come to Him we believe that He is (3) we believe that He is a rewarder (4) and we diligently seek Him and not just passively inquire of Him (Hebrews 11:6)

David again laments the problem...breathes up the prayer...and the adds the BUT FACTOR.

1.. Consider and answer me, O Lord My God (Psalm 13:3)

NOTE: Praying with an anticipation of an answer. This is praying a specific prayer.

2. Enlighten my eyes

NOTE: As we walk by faith and not HUMAN SIGHT...David desires to see through EYES OF FAITH. David realizes that IF his eyes are NOT enlightened..."sleep the sleep of death". With his EYES OF FAITH open...his sleep will be the sleep of life. When we are sleeping "the sleep of death"...our enemies will see our situation as one of lose. They will say..."I have overcome him" and the adversaries will rejoice when we are shaken.

Now...David has wondered how long before an answer is coming......requested God's consideration and answer in the matter...stated the problem IF God does not intervene...and then stated the BUT FACTOR.

1. BUT

NOTE: This is where most of us miss it. We despair in the unanswered prayer...imagine what will happen to us...and never enter the BUT FACTOR...BEFORE the answer is ever seen. Unenlightened eyes stay this way...enlightened eyes see the solution more than they see the problem.

2. I HAVE trusted in Your lovingkindness

NOTE: I have...not I'm going to. The trusting in His lovingkindness takes place before the answer appears. It's called walking the the substance of things hoped (confidently expected), the evidence of things NOT SEEN.

3. My heart SHALL rejoice in Your salvation

NOTE: Not could, not possibly will...but SHALL, jump up and spin around before the answer is seen.

4. I WILL sing to the Lord

NOTE: Not a dirge...not the blues...but songs of praise by choice (I will)

6. BECAUSE...He HAS dealt bountifully with me.

NOTE: Has...is past tense. It is one of those Ebenezer moments...where God has been faithful in the past...we have built an altar to commemorate that...and as we face our present with one eye to the past (Ebenezer..God had met the need back then)...and one eye to the now (present need)...affecting our future (the outcome). All of this is based on our CHOICE when it looks like God is no where to be found...and we are wondering HOW LONG.

PSALM 12:6-7 WORDS: Kept Words

Hello lovers of God Speak...are ya listening?

"The WORDS of the Lord are pure words; as silver tried in a furnace on the earth refined seven times."

When it looks like the godly man cease to be...when it looks like the faithful disappear from among the sons of men...and the evil ones speak falsehood to one another...with lips that flatter and speaking from a double heart...what are you gonna do? Well...the Psalmist continues his modus operandi by (1) stating the problem (2) declaring the answer to the problem.

The people who the Psalmist has a prayer in relation to their mouths.

1. May the Lord cut off all flattering lips
2. May the Lord cut off the tongue that speaks great things

These people (wicked) with flattering lips and a tongue that speaks great things are saying and doing things. (Psalm 12:2-4)

1. With our TONGUE we will prevail (vs. 4)
2. Our LIPS are our own. (vs. 4)
3. Who is LORD over us. (vs. 4)
4. Strut about on every side (vs. 8)
5. Vileness is exalted among the sons of men (vs. 8)

Of course the MOUTH (tongue/lips) is only the reveler of what is in the heart. So if you want to know someones thoughts and heart...listen to what is coming out of their mouth...especially in times of trials and triumph.

God SPEAKS his THOUGHTS also. "Because of the devastation of the afflicted, because of the groaning of the needy...NOW I WILL ARISE, says the Lord; I WILL SET HIM IN SAFETY for which he longs." (Psalm 12:5)

Have you ever been waiting for news to arrive? Maybe a court verdict, or a physicians words after someones surgery...oh how we anticipate and await some GOOD WORDS.

THE WORDS OF THE LORD ARE:

1. pure words
2. tried/perfect words
3. like silver tried and refined seven times.

The Psalmist underscores that the godly man among the faithful will not disappear from among the sons of men...because..."You O Lord, will keep them (Words); You will PRESERVE him (godly/faithful) men from this generation of falsehood, flattering lips, double hearted men) forever. (Psalm 12:7)

Well...once again the Psalmists laments the problem...and proclaim the solution...and it is all hinged on the WORDS OF GOD.

PSALM 11:1 Run or Refuge

Greetings O Ye Trusters In The Lord...

"In the Lord I take refuge...how can you say to my soul...flee as a bird to your mountain."

Have you ever been standing in faith...trusting God as the enemy is approaching...and you press into the Lord as your refuge...but those around you are encouraging you to flee from your refuge to another...seemingly more secure position? You will either R..or..R...(1) refuge or
(2) run/flee.

I love the question that David gives..."How can you say...?" Of course...on the surface...it appears that the advice to run might be a prudent idea...considering the circumstance.

(1) The wicked bend their bow
(2) They make ready their arrow upon the string
(3) To shoot in darkness at the upright in heart
(4) If the foundations are destroyed...what can the righteous do?

Hmmmm...it appears to flee...run might be the best way to avoid the fight. But David had a "REFUGE MINDSET". Psalm 11:4-7 is "the way of faith"...NOT "the way of fear." As we have seen with other Psalms of Lament...David covers all bases...stating the problem...stating the solution. "For the Lord is righteous, He loves righteousness...the upright will behold His face." (Psalm 11:7).

It is hard to behold His face when you are running from His refuge into another safe location.

Oh to be sure...running is not always the wrong thing to do...but make sure your running is to the "mountain of the Lord" and not the "mountian of your fears" and your running partner is the Lord.

PSALM 10:16-18 Times Of Trouble

Good Morning Psalmsters...or whatever time you are reading this.

"The Lord is King forever and ever; nations have perished from His land. O Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble, You will strengthen their heart, You will incline Your ear to vindicate the orphan and the oppressed, that man who is of the earth may cause terror now more." (Psalm 10:16-18)

The question that the Lamenting Psalmist kicks off this Psalm of Lament with is this..."Why do You stand afar off, O Lord? Why do You hide Yourself in TIMES OF TROUBLE.?"
(Psalm 10:1)

It appears that the wicked have free reign over the afflicted...and God is no where to be found. It appears that the wicked are getting more and more arrogant as they afflict the afflicted. The Psalmist...most likely David...continues to plea/pray/intercede with God to show himself and vindicated the afflicted and deal with the wicked.

Later on in Psalm 37 we will look at what we are suppose to do when it looks like the wrong doers and evil doers look like they are getting away with murder. The bottom line is that we should press in to the one who can deal with the wicked in TIMES OF TROUBLE.

The Psalmist ends this Psalm with confidence...that the Lord who is King forever and ever...has heard the desire (Psalm 37:4) of the humble...and will strengthen the heart of the humble as he inclines His ear to the humble. Vindication is in the hands of the Lord...the wicked man of the earth may cause terror no more. Come quickly Lord.

PSALM 9:1-2 The CHOOSERS

Greetings CHOOSERS...What WILL you CHOOSE to DO.

"I WILL give thanks/praise to the Lord; with all my heart...I WILL tell of all Your wonders. I WILL be glad and exult in You...I WILL sing praise to Your name, O Most High."
(Psalm 9:1-2)

This is entitled..."For the choir director; on Muth-Labben. A Psalm of David" Muth-labben means "death for (or of) the son." but what it refers to is uncertain." (Thanx and a Tip O Da Hat to The Ryrie Study Bible footnote)

In the world of David...things were black and white. There was good/bad, righteous/evil, friends/enemies, right/wrong. In the world of David there was no politically correct, warm fuzzy, pacifist, forgive and forget...of course unless it was when he was in a repentant mode for his own personal sins. (Psalms 32; Psalm 51). Many of David's Psalms were "git em God"...or... "thank You, praise You, I testify about You...cause you "got em". This sometimes goes against the grain of New Testament sensibilities...as Jesus encourages us to "love our enemies."

It's all about attitude. Whatever it is...David made choices to (1) give thanks/praise (2) tell of His wonders (3) be glad (4) exult in You (5) sing praises to His name.

1. Giving thanks/praise (yadah) by extension of the hands...as if to throw a stone or arrow. It is an aggressive form of praise....and NOT half heartily.

2. Tell of His wonders (saphar) by marking as a tally/record/enumerate/recount them).

3. Be glad (samach) in You...by being cheerful, brighten up, be merry.

4. Exult (alats) in You..by jumping for you, acting triumphant.

5. Sing praises (sawmar) to your name by striking/touch fingers to the stringed instrument
and celebrate with music.

This thing called PRAISE...is not a passive exercise in futility. It is a passionate and demonstrative exercise in Worship of the Living God who will save and vindicate us as our enemies swirl around us.

As those whose roots are in the FAT PART of the book (Old Testament)...and our harvest is in the SKINNY PART of the book (New Testament)...we still have enemies...we still trust God in our battles and warfare...but our focus is BEYOND FLESH AND BLOOD.

"In conclusion, be strong in the Lord--be empowered through your union with Him; draw your strength from Him--that strength which His [boundless] might provides. Put on God's whole armor--the armor of a heavy-armed soldier, which God supplies--that you may be able to successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil. For we are NOT wrestling with flesh and blood-contending ONLY with physical opponents--but against (1) the despotism, (2) against the powers (3) against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere." (Ephesians 6:10-12)

Well...the time for HALF-HEARTED praise is over...let's get up...and get it on!!!

PSALM 8 1; 3-5; 9 The Speck In The Apple (Having a God's-Eyed-View)

Greetings...

"O Lord...our Lord...How majestic is your name in all the earth...who have displayed Your splendor above the heavens!" (Psalm 8:1) "When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers. The moon and the stars, which You have ordained; What is man that You take thought of him...and the son of man that You care for him? Yet You have made him a little lower than God...and You crown him with glory and majesty! (Psalm 8:3-5) "O Lord, our Lord...How majestic is Your name in all the earth!" (Psalm 8:9)

Think of the smallest speck that you could possibly think of...and then think of the largest object that you could imagine. Our majestic God...created the wonderful heavens and earth, and planted and populated the freshly created earth with the speck...man...comparitively speaking.

Now a speck...compared to God is small...but small does not mean that it is not treasured, valuable, of worth to God. Consider that His people are considered to be the "apple of His eye."
Apple means...(1) the little man of the eye (2) the pupil or ball of the eye. (3) the middle
When someone or thing comes towards your eyes...the natural instinct is to protect, blink, flinch...because our eyes...our sight is precious. So it is with us...the speck ( no pun intended).
(Deuteronomy 32:10; Zechariah 2:8; Psalm 17:8; Proverbs 7:2)

After God created...God said..."Let Us make man in Our image...according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. God created man in His own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female, He created them."
(Genesis 1:26-27)

Here's the big question...God...what do you think of this speck? "What is man (the speck) that You take thought of him...and the son of man that You care for him?" (Psalm 8:4)

Here's the big answer...The Majestic God...created the speck...in His image...which made the speck...in God's eye (again...no pun intended) to be...a little lower than God...and crowned him (the speck) with glory and majesty, and dominion over the works of God's hands and put all things under his feet."(Psalm 8:5; Genesis 1:26-31)

NOTE: The speck was given dominion over the created by the Creator.

NOTE: "The Psalmist views man, created in God's image, as a little lower than God. In Hebrews 2:6-8...the passage is applied to JESUS...as the Son of Man. (Ryrie Study Bible note on Psalm 8:5)

Well...the Psalmist starts off with a declaration of the majesty of the Lord's name in ALL the earth and displayed splendor above the heavens...and ends with a declaration of the majestic Lord's name in ALL the earth. (Psalm 8:1; Psalm 8:9)
