PSALM 7:17-18 Git Shiggaion Wit It

Greetings Ecstatic People...

"I WILL give thanks to the Lord...according to HIS righteousness, and WILL sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High." (Psalm 7:17-18)

"To will or not to will...that is the question of CHOICE." (Shakespeare via R.L.B.)

The heading of this Psalm states "A SHIGGAION of David which he sang to the Lord concerning Cush, a Benjamite."

A SHIGGAION...is defined in the Ryrie Study Bible commentary notes as "An obscure term, perhaps indicating an ECSTATIC SONG." This ecstatic song is concerning one of Saul's henchmen...sent to KILL David. You can only imagine David singing ecstatically about and enemy.

NOTE: Will Smith...the Fresh Prince of Belaire...had a hit song...called Get Jiggy With It. If Will can get JIGGY with it...we can get SHIGGAION with it.

ECSTASY= An overpowering emotion or exaltation; a sudden intense emotion; rapturous delight. The frenzy of poetic inspiration.

David was emotional in his Psalms. Again...David states the problem...and states the solution. In between the problem and the solution David underscores what will happen to him IF the Lord does not intervene.

David ends this FRENZY OF POETIC INSPIRATION...this OVERPOWERING EMOTIONAL, INTENSE, RAPTUROUS, EXALTATION of lament...with (1) thanks
(2) praise...again before the solution manifests.

These two things...(1) thanks (2) praise...are hinged on choice.

I WILL:

1. Give thanks to the Lord.

NOTE: This thanks is not based on the person attacking him (Cush)or the goodness/righteousness of David. This thanks is base on HIS righteousness.

2. Sing praise

NOTE: This praise sung...this Shiggaion...this frenzy of poetic inspiration is not TO the person attacking him (Cush) or his name (David)...but to the NAME OF THE LORD MOST HIGH.

When you are GOING THROUGH S.T.U.F.F. (satan troubling/tormenting/tempting us for fun)Maybe you should get your SHIGGAION on....smack dab in the middle of your troubles. It's O.K. to do this...God won't be offended. He wrote it in the Fat Part of the Book (The Old Testament) and underscored it throughout the Skinny Part of the Book (The New Testament) as we are encouraged..."In everything give a THANKS for this is the WILL of God concerning you in Christ Jesus." (I Thessalonians 5:18)..."Rejoice always" (I Thessalonians 5:16)..."Rejoice
in the Lord ALWAYS...and again I say Rejoice." (Philippians 4:4) One of the words in the Old Testament for praise is hallelujah...which means to RAVE ON...and get CLAMOURSLY FOOLISH.

PSALM 6:8-9 The W.S.P. Factor

Greetings O Ye W.S.P'ers...

"Depart from me, all you who do iniquity...for the Lord has heard the voice of my WEEPING...the Lord has heard my SUPPLICATION...the Lord RECEIVES my prayer." (Psalm 6:8-9)

This Psalm has three things interwoven throughout it...especially in verses 8 and 9.

1. Me
2. The Lord
3. The W.S.P. Factor

As David writes...another Psalm of Lament...about his adversaries and enemies. David's emotional condition...with concerns about being rebuked and chastening by the Lord in His anger and wrath...desire for grace and healing to a dismayed soul (mind, will, emotions, the totality and seat of who he is)...and a need for adversaries and enemies to depart.

What I like about the Lament Psalms is that David...who was a man after God's own heart... a man of praise and worship...a man with clay feet and hungry heart...was real. He did not hide behind FAUX FAITH (no...not fox...but with an O no X...aka false faith).

As mentioned before...I consider David to be one of the first blues men recorded in the Bible. David sings the blues about the situation/circumstance...but then shifts into the answer to his problems...many times singing the solution while the problem still exists.

The W.S.P. Factor is what David did.

1. Weeping: David cried while he was praying. These were not tears of joy...but tears of need. "Weeping may endure the night...but joy comes in the morning." (Psalm 30:5)

2. Supplication: I like to consider this prayer one that is more specific and humble. David
does list and is specific with what he wants to happen concerning his enemies. This does not
mean that we dictate to God on how to handle the answering of the prayer...but that does
not mean that we can't humbly let God know how we really feel...because after all...He does
already know what we need before we ask Him.

3. Prayer: The actual act of communicating with God. It is as natural as breathing. It only
requires for us to open our mouth and express our thoughts to Him. In Philippians 4 we are called to "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by PRAYER and SUPPLICATION with THANKSGIVING...LET/ALLOW your REQUESTS BE MADE KNOW (Philippians 4:6-8)

As you are trusting God...standing in faith...this is where the rubber meets the road. This is the practical application of what you believe. As a teacher of the Word of God...I lay out the principles of God...and on the surface they sound easy. They are taught step 1...step 2...step 3 and then the finished product. But in reality...it may be Step 2...Step 3...Step 1. That is why we "walk by faith...not by sight." (II Corinthians 5:7) That is why we "have faith in God, continually." (Mark 11:22) That is why our faith is "faith toward God." (Hebrews 6:1) That is why "the righteous live by faith." [it's a lifestyle] (Romans 1:17; Habakkuk 2:4; Galatians 3:11;
Hebrews 10:38) If you faith is in answered prayer...or changed circumstances...or people as your saviours...then when things don't change, or they shift, or fall of their idol pedestals...then there goes your faith.

Psalm 6 started out with David being dismayed...but ends with "All my enemies SHALL BE (future tense spoken from the present)...(1) ashamed and (2) dismayed." (Psalm 6:10). The time frame for this taking place..."...they shall turn back...they shall be SUDDENLY be ashamed." (Psalm 6:10)

PSALM 5:1-3 Ordered Prayer: Divine Communication System

Greetings Prayer Warriors...

"Give EAR to my WORDS, O Lord...consider my MEDITATION/GROANING...heed the SOUND of my CRY for help, My King and my God. For to you I PRAY. In the morning...O Lord...You will HEAR my VOICE...in the morning I will ORDER my PRAYER TO YOU and EAGERLY WATCH."

(Psalm 5:1-3)

This Psalm...is a duet with stringed instrument...accompanied with flute. This is another blues Psalm...or a Lament Psalm.

God has set up his divine communication system between Him...being de-vine...and us being
de-branches (John 15:1-7) This communication system is called PRAYER. Wow...the Creator of the universe...wanting to communicate...two way conversation...with us. Notice the words relating to speaking and hearing: ear, words, meditation/groaning, sound, cry, pray, hear, voice,
prayer. As a Speech-Language Pathologist...who studies, evaluates and treats the disorders of Speech, Language, Cognition, Swallowing, etc...when I read stuff like this...it strikes a chord with me like a fingernail strumming the stringed instruments of the Psalmist.

The word for MEDITATION/GROANING...is haw-gaw which means...murmuring, meditation, musing, a muttering under the breath that which you are thinking about.

In Joshua 1:8...we see..."This book of the Law shall not depart from your MOUTH...but you shall MEDITATE (haw-gaw...mutter under you breath) on it (the Law) day and night...SO that you may be careful to DO all that is written in it...for then (cause and effect) you will MAKE your way PROSPEROUS...and then you will have GOOD SUCCESS."

Notice that this prosperity and success is hinged on the thinking and muttering of the mouth... which prompts DOING.

This GROANING...this SIGHING out...this MUTTERING PRAYER...was not a new thing that David was doing. We see that Joshua was acquainted with this...and the children of Israel were also familiar with it. They may or may not have known what they were doing in their sighing and groaning...but it got God's focus.

"Now it came about in the course of those many days that the king of Egypt died and the sons of Israel GROANED/SIGHED because of their bondage...and CRIED OUT; and their CRY FOR HELP because of their bondage ROSE UP TO GOD. So God HEARD THEIR GROANING; and God REMEMBERED His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and God SAW the sons of Israel...and God TOOK NOTICE of them."

Exodus 2:23-25

In this Psalm of Lament...David did NOT just moan and groan...but sent up his PRAYERS with faith and confidence that His God would deliver Him. There was HOPE (confident expectation) that God "WILL HEAR MY VOICE." David not only ORDERED his prayers...he EAGERLY WATCHED for the coming answer. That is like praying for rain... and CARRY AROUND AN UMBRELLA IN ANTICIPATION OF THE RAIN.

"Therefore CONFESS your sins to one another, and PRAY for one another so that you MAY BE HEALED. The EFFECTIVE (effectual, fervent) PRAYER of a righteous man can accomplish much (availeth much). Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he PRAYED EARNESTLY that it would not rain and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months. Then he PRAYED AGAIN...and the sky POURED RAIN...and the earth produced its fruit"
James 5:16-18

The Elijah prayer is recorded in I Kings17:1; I Kings 18:1--46. The answer to the EFFECTUAL, FERVENT PRAYER...did not manifest immediately. But there was eager anticipation. Elijah sent his servant to look for the ANTICIPATED RAIN... 7 times. He had already told Ahab..."Go up, eat and drink; for there is the SOUND OF THE ROAR OF A HEAVY SHOWER." (I Kings 8:41)

NOTE: This is one of the earliest mentions of a weather man...since Noah.

"He said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. So he went up and looked and said THERE IS NOTHING. And he said...GO BACK SEVEN TIMES. And it came about at the SEVENTH TIME...that he said, Behold, a CLOUD AS SMALL AS A MAN'S HAND IS COMING UP FROM THE SEA. And he said...Go up, say to Ahab...prepare your chariot and go down, so that the HEAVY SHOWER DOES NOT STOP YOU. So it came about IN A LITTLE WHILE that the sky grew black with clouds and wind, and there was a HEAVY SHOWER."

(I Kings 18:43-45)

I said all of that...to say this. In Psalm 5...when David ordered his prayer (not ordered God to answer his prayer...but got his prayer in order)...he was walking by "faith not by sight"...but as he walked...he EAGERLY WATCHED. Like Elijah...he prayed for rain...spoke forth in faith the expected HEAVY SHOWERS. Between the point of prayer and the point of provision...walk by faith, eagerly watch...and don't give up. The manifestation...was the sound of a roar of heavy showers...and 7 times on the look out for the answer...and on the seventh time...there was a small cloud the size of a fist...sky grew black...more clouds...and more wind...then "THERE WAS A HEAVY SHOWER."

FINAL WORDS...FINALLY

As you eagerly watch...for you groanings and cry for help...eagerly watch. You may be in the phase of CALLING THINGS THAT ARE NOT AS THOUGH THEY WERE. You may be on the look out for the 7th time. You may be seeing a small cloud the size of a fist...you may see skys growing black...you may see MORE clouds...and MORE wind...but the bottom line...THERE WILL BE A HEAVY SHOWER IN YOUR LIFE.

PSALM 4: Distress Signal (How Do You Spell Relief)

Greetings trusters in the relieving God...

"Answer me when I call...O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; be gracious to me and hear my prayers." (Psalm 4:1)

Back in the day....there was a television commercial about the distress of acid indigestion. The question was asked..."How do you spell RELIEF." The answer was R.O.L.A.I.D.S." Take two Rolaids and you would watch on a moving diagram the two little tablets traveling down the throat into the upset stomach and watch RELIEF come. Aaaaaaaaah...classic T.V.

In Psalm 4 theologians believe that this Psalm is most likely another Psalm like Psalm 3...about Absalom's revolt. "The background of this Psalm is likely the same as that of Psalm 3 (i.e. Absolom's revolt). David appeals to the rebels to have second thoughts about supporting Absolom." (Thanx and a Tip O Da Hat to Ryrie Study Bible notes)

Once again...David addresses the issue...and once again...David focus' on the solution. David starts off with communication to the answer to his problems..."O God".

NOTE: As much as it sounds like it...God is not Irish...O'God.

Apparently...if this is related to Psalm 3...David already experienced RELIEF in his DISTRESS... "You have RELIEVED me in my DISTRESS. Now David desires more answers...(1) Be gracious (2) hear my prayer.

David again...speaks from past experience...and present experience in the cause and effect of praying/calling to the God of his righteousness.

1. Psalm 4:3 The Lord has set apart the godly man for Himself.

2. Psalm 4:3 The Lord hears when I call to Him

3. Psalm 4:7 You have put gladness in my heart more than when their (enemies) grain and new wine abounds.

4. Psalm 4:8 In peace I will both lie down and sleep

QUESTION: Why is all of this possible?

ANSWER: "For you alone, O Lord, make me to DWELL IN SAFETY." (Psalm 4:8)

NOTE: Dwelling in safety...is taking up residence...not just a passing fleeting safety.

Are you tossing and turning in the face of DISTRESS. How do you spell RELIEF? I believe I would spell it...O. G.O.D.!

PSALM 3:1-8 Increased Trouble? SELAH.

Hello friends and neighbors..but who is my neighbor? Well...everyone is...including you.

"Lord...how are they increased that trouble me! Many are they that rise up against me. Many there be which say of my soul. There is no help for him in God. SELAH. But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory and the lifter up of mine head. I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. SELAH. I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me. I will not be afraid of then thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about. Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God; for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly. Salvation belongeth unto the Lord; thy blessing is upon thy people. SELAH." (Psalm 3:1-8)

Got troubles? Who doesn't? King David certainly did. Absolom...David's son stole his kingdom...David fleed for his life...and his son was in pursuit. This is the inspiriation for this blues song...that was played upon the psaltry (stringed instrument).

NOTE: I have always felt that the Psalms (especially the lament Psalms)...were some of the first blues songs recorded (written down). You can almost hear the pulling strings of a bluesman's guitar moaning. Psalm 3 could have been entitled...I GOT DEM NO GOOD, LOW DOWN, NITTY GRITTY ABSOLOM BLUES. It starts with stolen kingdom by David's son...treachery...intrique...suspense and action...and death. It makes Dallas, Falcon Crest and Dynasty (T.V. night time soap opera) appear as if they were Sunday School.

David's Psalm...is a great model for what we can do when we are faced with INCREASED TROUBLE.

1. Lord

NOTE: Go to the solution to your problem. The word Lord means the one in control...especially when things are out of control.

2. How are they increased that trouble me! Many are they that rise up against me.

NOTE: State the problem to the Lord. David was not denying the reality of the problem.

3. Many there be which say of my soul...there is no help for him in God.

NOTE: People that are NOT in the middle of what you are going through...will shake their heads, cluck their tongues...and give their arm chair quarterback analysis of your situation. You can come into agreement with what they say...or you can trump reality by confessing what God says about you and your situation/circumstance/troubles.

4. SELAH.

NOTE: Musical interlude and pause #1. There are many perspectives on this word...selah (say-la or see-la). It appears aroudn 71 times in David's Psalms. It means to pause, reflect, with or without a a musical interlude. Again...I can hear David...playing the blues...in this lament. So...David says...pause and reflect the troubles...think about who is pronouncing the negative upon your situation and your potential outcome. But David...did not stay here...he proceded with a BUT.

5. BUT

NOTE: This is a contrast to what the problem is (we don't deny reality)...an a contrast to what others are saying.

6. Thou O Lord (the one in control)...art a shield for me.

NOTE: We have "the shield of faith". "Above all...taking the SHIELD OF FAITH with which you will be able to quench all the FIERY DATS OF THE WICKED ONE." (Ephesians 6:16). Notice we must TAKE the shield of faith...the shield of the substance of things hoped for...the evidence of things not revealed to the senses." (Hebrews 11:1).

7. My glory and the lifter up of mine head.

NOTE: When you are troubled...the posture is usually one of defeat, slumped shoulders, head down. So we have one who will lift us up. In karate...one of the things we are taught is to keep your head up, your eyes on the target, your focus intact. Where your eyes are looking...is where you kicks/punches will go. Looking down...kick down. In the BULLY BUSTER class...the young children are taught to walk with confidence, looking up (aware of your surroundings) and looking into the eyes of everyone. This can prevent many problems if you don't have a VICTIMS MENTALITY. The Lord will lif your head up.

8. I cried unto the Lord (the one in control) with my voice...and he heard me (my crying out voice) out of his holy hill.

NOTE: Prayer...communication with God...about what is happening to you is a good place to be. The cause and effect of this spiritual interpersonal communication is that God hears you.
YOU ARE NOT ALONE when you are SURROUNDED.

9. SELAH.

NOTE: The second pause and musical interlude to be used to take time and reflect who your help really is in your increased trouble. Play dem blues...David.

10. I WILL NOT be afraid of then thousands of people...that have set themselves against me round about.

NOTE: With the shield of faith in held in place...with the divine link of communication with the answer to our needed deliveance from increased trouble...we begin to make DECLARATIONS OF FAITH...not based on the circumstance...but based on the solution...when there is not visible solution taking place.

11. Arise O Lord...SAVE ME...O my God.

NOTE: Again....specific requests...(1) arise (2) save me. Specific requests to the only one who could SAVE him.

12. For thou hast smitten all my enemies upon the cheek bone...thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly

NOTE: God dealing with those that increasingly troubling, rising up against him...will and are being dealt with.

13. Salvation belongeth (King James for belongs) unto the LORD. Thy blessing is upon thy people.

NOTE: Salvation..in the Hebrew is "yeshuah" which is where we get the name Joshua (salvation) and Jesus (God is salvation). The word SALVATION means in the Hebrew and the Greek means: something saved, deliverance, aid, victory, prosperity, deliverance, health, help, safety, rescue.

This SALVATION in the face of INCREASING TROUBLE...belongs to the Lord...and when we turn to Him...it belongs to us.

14. Thy BLESSING upon thy people.

NOTE: Blessing...berakah (ber -aw-kaw) means a benediction...prosperity...blessing, liberal, pool, presence. David ends this Psalm with a prayer for...not just him...but a prayer for blessing upon the people.

15. SELAH

NOTE: This is the 3rd and final...musical interlude for the singers and readers of this Psalm... to meditate, contemplate, ruminate upon.

FINAL THOUGHTS...FINALLY.

Well...whatever you are going through...this is a great song to think about...and begin to sing and proclaim...instead of just rolling over and playing dead as you enemies surround you. Don't deny the problem...because they are real...but do deny the reality/problem right to rule you. Truth TRUMPS reality...and according to John 17:17 as Jesus prayed for us..."Sanctify them by TRUTH...THY WORD IS TRUTH."

Psalm 2:10-12 Wise Advice

Greetings Politicos...

Nations rage...people plot...kings set themselves up...rulers counsel together...against (1) The Lord (2) His Anointed/Messiah.

NOTE: See Psalm 2:3-8 for the Lord's reactions to rage, plots, self set ups, and counsels.

Now...therefore (because of all that is written Psalm 2:1-8)...here is where the WISE ADVICE comes in...

1. Be Wise
2. Be instructed
3. Serve the Lord with fear
4. Rejoice with trembling
5. Kiss the Son (submit)
6. Put your trust in Him

This bit of WISE ADVICE is in stark contrast to the ragers, plotters, self setter uppers, and counseling rulers. I think...in my personal life...that I will follow steps 1-6...what about you?

Psalm 1:1-6 The Blessing Connection

Greetings O Ye Blessed Ones...

"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the paths of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he MEDITATES day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth its fruit in its season. Whose leaf also shall not wither, and whatever he does shall prosper. The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgement. Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the Lord knows the way of the righteous. But the way of the ungodly shall perish." (Psalm 1:1-6)

I love that the first chapter in the book of Psalms is BLESSED...which means...HOW HAPPY. The contrast is the godly...who will be happy...and ungodly who "ARE NOT SO."

This BLESSING...is hinged on the relationship with the Word/Law. This relationship is not a casual reading of the Word/Law...but a reflection, a moaning, a muttering, to ponder, to make a quiet sound such as a sighing...to meditate or contemplated something as one repeats the words. We call this MEDITATION...hawgah (haw-gaw) in the Hebrew...ruminate in the Latin.

NOTE: "In Hebrew thought, to meditate upon the Scriptures is to quietly repeat them in a soft, droning sound, while utterly abandoning outside distractions. From this tradition comes a specialized type of Jwish prayer called DAVENING...that is...reciting texts, praying intense prayers, or getting lost in communion with God while bowing or rocking back and forth. Evidently this dynamic form of MEDITATION-PRAYER goes back to David's time." (Thanx and a Tip O Da Hat to Strong's Concordance and The Spirit Filled Life Bible).

The cause and effect of this of this "day and night" meditation...life....fruit production...green leafs...and true, Biblical prosperity.

Joshua 1:8 underscores this thought..."This book of the Law shall not depart from your MOUTH...but you shall MEDITATE on it DAY AND NIGHT...so that you may be careful to DO all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way PROSPEROUS...and then you will have GOOD SUCCESS." (Joshua 1:8)

The WORD/LAW (1) in the mind...(2) in the mouth...(3) in the actions...brings about prosperity (having enough to meet your needs and overflow to meet the needs of others)...and good success (accomplishing God's purpose in your life).

This BLESSING is also hinged on the company you keep. I think this is because...ungodly, negative, scornful people will distract you from the WORD...and draw you into their way of non-blessed life. Walking, standing, sitting in their presence...is progressive and is not recommended...IF you want a BLESSING. This does not mean that you are better than they are...but it does mean...that..."it's hard to fly with eagles...when your surrounded by turkeys."

Jesus hung out with sinners to the point of the religious people of the day pointing their religious fingers at him and accusing Him of being a winebibber and glutton...but...when the ungodly are like chaff and wind drives them away...and the ungodly will not stand in judgment... and the the sinners not standing in the congregation of the righteous...IF the "godly" are standing in their presence...they will be swept away.

The good news is that the Lord knows the way of the righteous...who is rooted into the rivers of living waters and the Word/Law of God. and will (1) bring forth its fruit in season (2) their leaf will not wither (3) whatever he does...shall prosper.

Let's get ROOTED by the river and in the Word of God.

THE PSALM BOOK...BEGINNINGS

Greetings and Praise The Lord...

Welcome to the beginning of the blog called THE PSALM BOOK. I have just done a cycle of one month on the book of Pro-Verbs...and wondered...what next? Should I continue with the Pro-Verbs for another 31 days...or something else. The something else is THE PSALM BOOK.

This is a collection of songs and poetry that was used in congregational worship...and you can use them in private devotions as well. The bulk of these songs/poetry is a collection of King David's songs...but also from others....Moses, Asaph, Heman, the sons of Korak,Solomon, Ethan, and Jeduthun. Also some with unknown authors. "Jewish scholars called these orphan psalms." (Thanx and a Tip O Da Hat to notes in The Spirit Filled Bible).

This collection of writings...this Sepher Tehillim (Book of Praises)...this Psalmoi/Psalterion (Poems that is to be accompanied by a stringed instrument)...is filled with temple songs, hymns of praise, elegies, laments, personal and national prayers, petitions, meditations, instructions, historical anthems, and acrostic tributes to noble themes. (Thanx and Another Tip O Da Hat to The Spirit Filled Bible). NOTE: This book is also great for a primer on repentance...as seen by the man after God's own heart...King David...needs restoration after murder and adultery (Psalm 32 and Psalm 51).

These writings are NOT just a fluffy, creme filled, pie in the sky look at life. There are real, nitty gritty issues...with a real God...sung by real people. I have always considered David as one of the first blues singers...as he laments the problem...but then praise the solution to the problem. (See Psalm 3).

We will follow the format of The Pro-Verbs (Positive-Action) blog...by systematically going from chapter one (1) all the way to chapter one hundred and fifty (150). We will not deal with the entire chapter (unless they are short) ...but something that jumps out at me...and then next time move on to the next chapter.

As you go through life...utilize The Psalm Book to lead you into the way of praise...and begin to worship the Lord in spirit and truth versus the flesh and what is happening to you.

HEBREW WORDS FOR PRAISE (Thanx and a Tip O Da Hat to various sources for these definitions including ...Strong's Concordance...Young's Concordance...Vines Lexicon...various Internet sites...and last but not least...the worship ninja...Wayne Berry.

Throughout the Bible there are seven primary Hebrew words for praise. Each one has a different colour or emphasis. You may ask yourself..."self...when is it proper to praise the Lord?" Well...self...PRAISE IS ALWAYS IN ORDER! On this inaugural issue of The Psalm Book...let's look at the word PRAISE.

1. HALAL: This is where we get the word hallelujah (halal-jah...praise Yahweh). It means... "to be clear, to shine, to boast, show, to rave, celebrate...TO BE CLAMOROUSLY FOOLISH." (Psalm 113:1-3; Psalm 150:1; Psalm 149:3; I Chronicles 2)

2. YADAH: This is a verb...meaning..."the extended hand...to throw out the hand, therefore to worship with the extended hand." The opposite meaning is..."to bemoan, the wringing of the hands." NOTE: both...actually all of these are a choice...not a gift or a fruit.
(II Chronicles 8:14; Ezra 3:10; Psalm 22:22; Psalm 63:5; Psalm 69:30; II Chronicles 20:21;
Psalm 63:1; Psalm 107:15; Genesis 49:8; II Chronicles 7:6; Isaiah 12:4; Jeremiah 33:11)

3. TOWDAH: Comes from the same principle root word as YADAH...but is used more specifically. Towdah literally means..."an extension of the hand in adoration, avowal, or acceptance." This type of praise (as with others) is thanking God for things NOT YET received as well as things "ALREADY AT HAND." NOTE: That just about covers the gamut of our prayers. (Psalm 50:14; Psalm 50:23; II Chronicles 29:31; Jeremiah 33:11; Psalm 42:4)

4. SHABACH: This means..."to shout, to address in a LOUD TONE...to command...to triumph." (Psalm 47:1; Psalm 145:4; Isaiah 12:6; Psalm 63:1-4; Psalm 117:1; Psalm 35:27; Psalm 106:47)

5. BARAK: This means..."to kneel down, to BLESS God as an act of adoration."
(Psalm 95:6; I Chronicles 29:20; Psalm 34:1; Job 1:21; Psalm 96:2; Psalm 103:1-2; Psalm 18:46)

6. ZAMAR: This means..."to PLUCK THE STRINGS of an instrument, to sing, to praise; a musical word which is largely involved with joyful expressions of music with musical instruments." (Psalm 21:13; I Chronicles 16:9; Psalm 57:8-9; Psalm 66:2-4; Isaiah 12:5; Psalm 27:6; Psalm 149:3; Psalm 30:4)

7. TEHILLAH: This word is "derived form the word HALAL and means...the singing of halals, to sing or laud; perceived to involve music, especially singing; HYMNS OF THE SPIRIT." (Psalm 22:3; Psalm 33:1; Isaiah 61:3; Psalm 34:1; I Chronicles 16:35; II Chronicles 20:22; Deuteronomy 10:21; Exodus 15:11; Psalm 147:1-2)

Well...if you read all the way to end of this blog...you are someone who love to PRAISE THE LORD!
