PSALM 49 RECEPTIVE REDEMPTION

Greetings...

"But God will REDEEM my soul from the power of the grave...for He shall RECEIVE me. Selah." (Psalm 49:15)

I like the idea of my soul (my mind...my will...my emotions...the totality of who I am)...being redeemed...bought...traded...substituted...with the cause and effect that the grave has no power over me. (Read I Corinthians 15 for the power of the RISEN Christ...our hope...and the last enemy destroyed...with final victory....with death being swallowed up).

The grave should have power over me...but IT DOES NOT. Why? Propitiation. I have been bought with a price...the blood of Jesus. Death, Burial, and Resurrection...sealed the power of the grave over me. The critical key is that He RECEIVED me...because I RECEIVED Him. I had the POWER to RECEIVE Him...so He could...would...RECEIVE ME.

"But as many as RECEIVED Him...to them He gave the RIGHT to become children of God...to those who believe in His name." (John 1:12)

Hmmm...I'm noticing a lot of R's....redeem...receive...right....Rodney (sorry).

"He paid a debt He did not owe...I owed a debt I could not pay...I needed someone to wash my sins away. And now I sing a brand new song...Amazing Grace how sweet the sound...Christ Jesus paid a debt that I could never pay." (He Paid A Debt)

PSALM 48 GREAT IS THE LORD

Greetings...

"Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised, in the city of our God in His holy mountain... beautiful in elevation/situation...the joy of the whole earth...is Mount Zion on the sides of the north...The city of the great King." (Psalm 48:1-2)

In the 70's...sitting in a small circle or standing in front of a few hundred people...I would lead people in praise and worship...singing this Psalm (or at least a few verses from it. I played it in the key of D.

It started off with a statement of fact:

"Great is the Lord". That statement enough is a declaration, a confession, an encouragement, and an authoritative statement to put the devil (little d) on notice.

"And greatly to be praised": A GREAT God...deserves GREAT praise. Sometimes I praise Him like He ain't that great. "Mediocre is the Lord...and in a mediocre way to be praised." NOTE: This would be like...clapping your hands to the Lord and then just kind of pitty pat to the Lord.

"In the city of our God": The dwelling place for our God...where we desire to be. This is the place we speak of when we pray..."Our Father...who art in Heaven..."

"In His holy mountain (mountain of His Holiness).": It ain't the mountain that makes it self holy...it's the Holy God who makes it Holy...because wherever He is...it is "Holy Ground".

"Beautiful in elevation (beautiful for situation)": When you dwell in "heavenly places"...you are positioned...elevated...situated to have a God's Eyed View...of events in your life below on planet earth.

"The joy of the whole earth.": Joy is the hallmark of earth...when the Lord is the Lord and the Kingdom is established throughout the earth. Joy means delight. As we delight ourselves in the Lord...He will give us the desires of our hearts. (Psalm 37:4)

"Is Mount Zion on the sides of the north.": The city of Zion...the center of Jewish worship...and later a type/picture of the New Testament church...was located in the north (northeastern)part of Mt. Zion. (Thanx and a Tip O Da Hat to The Spirit Filled Life Bible)

"The city of the great King.": The King...the kingdom...the city. The great King...makes a great city.

NOTE: When we sang verses 1-2...we would then go into a little chorus..."How great is or God... how great is His name...How great is our God...forever the same...He rolled back the waters...of the might Red Sea...and He said I'd never leave you...put your trust in Me."

The second verse (that we later learned)...was from verse 10-11..."According to you name...O God so is Thy praise...unto the ends of the earth...Your right hand is full of righteousness... let Mount Zion rejoice...let the daughters of Judah be glad..." We then go back into the chorus..."How great is our God...."

Well...if you want to be in a good position...to have a God's eye view...may I suggest...the mountain top.

PSALM 47 You Make We Wanna SHOUT

Greetings

"Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples! Shout to God with the voice of triumph!" (Psalm 47:1)

QUESTION: What does the Isley Brothers, Jimmy and Carol Owens, Pat Boone, Barry McGuire, and The Second Chapter of Acts all have in common?

ANSWER: Psalm 47:1

Back in the 70's...Jimmy and Carol Owens wrote a musical called IF MY PEOPLE based on
II Chronicles 7:14..."If my people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." I went to a concert to hear this project...and Pat Boone, Barry McGuire and The Second Chapter of Acts were all there to sing along with a very large collective choir. The Isley Brothers...who were not on the record or at the concert have a connection...by their hit in the 50's called SHOUT (You make me wanna shout...).

The Psalmist starts off with encouragement to have movement and sound (1) Clap your hands (2) Shout to God (with a voice of triumph).

The question is WHY? Well...here are just a few reason to clap and shout:

1. The Lord Most High is awesome
2. He is a great King over all the earth
3. He will subdue the peoples under us
4. he will subdue the nations under our feet
5. He will choose our inheritance for us
6. God has gone up with a SHOUT
7. The Lord has gone up with the SOUND of a trumpet

We are called to:

1. Sing praises to God
2. Sing praises
3. Sing praises to our King
4. Sing praises
5. Sing praises with understanding

NOTE: You get the idea that this relationship with the Lord is LOUD and ACTIVE.

Why sing praises? when the princes of the people have gathered together...the people of the God of Abraham have gathered to gather. Why?

1. For God is the King of all the earth
2. God reigns over the nations
3. The shields of the earth belong to God
4. He is greatly exalted

Well...if this is NOT enough to CLAP your hands and SHOUT to God...then...I don't know what is.

NOTE: If you are going to CLAP YOUR HANDS...then don't just pitty-pat...CLAP. If you are going to SHOUT to God...crank it up to 10 (amplifier reference).

PSALM 46 PRESENT TROUBLE...PRESENT HELP (Holy Ghost Power)

Greetings...

"God is our REFUGE and STRENGTH. A VERY PRESENT HELP in trouble." (Psalm 46:1)

I don't know if you have ever been in trouble...but you feel uncoverd, weak, and no help to be found.

TROUBLE: tsarah (tsaw-raw)= (1) tightness (2) adversary (3) adversity (4) affliction
(5) anguish (6) distress (7) tribulation (8) trouble

When you are in TROUBLE...the way that you can take refuge and renew your strength...

"Be STILL and KNOW that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!" (Psalm 46:10)

When you are in TROUBLE...there is a RIVER. For the believer...there is a river. As the song says..."There is a river...that flows from deep within...there is a fountain that frees the soul from sin...come to the waters...there is a vast supply...there is a river...that never shall run dry." (There Is A River)

"On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out saying, If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who beleives in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow RIVERS OF LIVING WATER. But this He spoke concerning THE SPIRIT, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the HOLY SPIRIT was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified." (John 7:37-39)

Well....Jesus IS glorified NOW...and is available for witnessing power.

"But you shall receive POWER when the HOLY SPIRIT has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
(Acts 1:8)

When you are IN TROUBLE...let the HOLY SPIRIT...IN YOU...be your refuge, strength, and help.

PSALM 45:1 LET IT FLOW MY LOVE (Wedding Bells)

Greetings...

"My heart is overflowing with a good theme; I recite my composition concerning the King; My tongue is the pen of a ready..skillful...writer." (Psalm 45:1)

Here we go with another one by the sons of Korah..to the chief Musician...set to The Lillies (Shoshannim). It is a song of love...about the Glories of the Messiah and His Bride. Wow..now that is a lot of words at the top of the Psalm in my Bible.

What we have is a description of the union of a King...and the soon to be Queen. Be sure to read this Psalm for the full descriptive effects of this union.

The Bridegroom...the Messiah...the Anointed One...points through the time-space continuum to The Christ...the Anointed One...the Saviour...JESUS. We see the writer of Hebrews using Psalm 45:6-7 as a quote as he describes JESUS...

"Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; a scepter/a ruler's staff of righteousness is the scepter/ruler's staff of Your Kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; therefore GOD...Your GOD has anointed You with the oil of gladness more than Your companions." (Hebrews 1:8-9; Isaiah 61:1-3)

"In the beginning was the Word/Jesus...and the Word/Jesus was with God...and the Word/Jesus was God..." (John 1:1)

As the Psalmist paints the picture of the King...the Messiah...the Anointed One...we see the link between Jesus and God...they are ONE.

When you combine writings like this one...with the Song of Songs (the Song of Solomon) and various passages like Ephesians 5:22-32...that speaks of a GREAT MYSTERY...that has been revealed to us...that of the joining of Christ and the church...the Groom and the Bride... the Gentiles and Jews in union with the Messiah/Christ...you have a wedding portrait that is in the gallery of the World to be viewed by whosoever.

Welcome to the Wedding...let the love flow.

PSALM 44:1-3 THE DAYS OF OLD FAVOR

Greetings,

"We have heard with our ears O God...Our fathers told us...the deeds You did in their days...in the days of old: You drove out the nations/Gentiles/heathens with Your hand...but them You planted: You afflicted the peoples, and cast them out. For they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword...nor did their own arm save them; but it was Your right hand...Your arm...and the light of your countenance...because you favored them. (Psalm 43:1-3)

Well...enter the sons of Korah...with a Psalm to the Chief Musician. The Psalm is written in PRESENT dishonor...with an eye to the PAST. When they look to "the fathers"...who have past on the stories of glory...the things that God did in their days (aka The Days of Old)...it gives them hope of deliverance. It affects the way they persevere in prayer and continue to as for help from the same God that delivered them. "Arise for our HELP...and REDEEM us for Your MERCIES SAKE." (Psalm 43:26)

Sometimes when we are surrounded by nations/Gentiles/heathens...who are being afflicted and cast out...maybe we need to look back and see how God manifested Himself in their lives. The battles are not won by (1) their/our own sword (2) their/our won arm. The battles and victories and possessions of our spiritual land are won by:

PSALM 43:3

1. His right hand
2. His arm
3. His lighted countenance
4. His favor

Here is a declaration to SELAH:

"You are my King, O God; command victories for Jacob. Through YOU we will push down our enemies; through YOUR NAME we will trample those who rise up against us. For I will NOT trust in my bow, nor shall my sword save me. But YOU have saved us from our enemies, and have put to shame those who hate us. In GOD we boast all day long, and praise YOUR NAME forever...SELAH. (Psalm 43:4-8)

His FAVOR still flows

PSALM 43:8 CONVERSATION WITH THE SOUL (Despair and Disturbance Solutions)

Greetings...

"Why are you in despair...O my soul? And why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God." (Psalm 43:8)

Have you ever been driving down the road...talking to yourself? Do you catch yourself doing it... and then look around to make sure nobody saw you talking to yourself...because that would be considered CRAZY!?! Unless....your soul needs talkin' to.

In Psalm 103...we see the Psalmist soul talking again when he say..."Bless the Lord...O my soul...and all that is within me...bless His Holy name." (Psalm 103:1) In essence the Psalmist is saying...soul...bless the Lord. The soul...of man is called the nephesh...the seat of our emotions and who we are. Of course I Thessalonians 5:23 breaks us down a little further as (1) spirit
(2) soul (3) body. The soul...our mind (what we think), our volition/free will (what we choose) and our emotions (indicator of what we think and choose)...need reminding of who God is... because if we don't...we will just accept whatever bad comes down our path.

The Psalmist is asking questions and then tell the soul what it needs to be doing as an ungodly nation, deceitful and unjust men, and enemies are coming against him.

QUESTION: Soul...why are you in despair?

QUESTION: Soul...why are you disturbed within me?

ANSWER: Soul...HOPE (confident expectation) in God.

SOUL DECLARATION: Soul...I shall (volition) praise Him (the help of my countenance and my God) again.

The next time your mind begins reasoning about sin and walking in the flesh...or begins screaming out thoughts of doubt, fear, unbelief, worry, anxiety, despair, disturbance...have little talk with him... and point him in the right direction...the Lord. As the song goes..."have a little talk with Jesus and make it right..."...and after your little talk with Jesus...have a little talk with your soul...about what Jesus says.
